What is a hostel?
A hostel is an inexpensive lodging facility that provides overnight housing for travelers. Guests have a choice of staying in a dormitory style or private room. Upon arrival, visitors receive linens and a pillow. The Chicago Getaway Hostel strives to meet and exceed its guest’s expectations by providing only high levels of quality from the beginning and service to the end.
How do I make a reservation?

When do you charge my credit card?
This will depend on the reservation package you select. Prepaid and non-refundable bookings are charged when you make the reservation, and cannot be altered or cancelled with a refund. If you book our standard 72-hour cancellation reservation, you should expect to be charged for the first night 3 days in advance of your arrival, to ensure the credit card is valid, then you will pay for the rest of your stay at check-in. Getaway Hostel has a variety of different reservation types, it is important to be mindful of the terms & conditions of the reservation package you select.
What time is check-in?
Check in time is typically at 3 P.M. If you arrive earlier and your room is ready, we’ll go ahead and check you in. If your room is not ready, we’ll gladly store your luggage for you while you wait within the hostel or go out and see Chicago.
Can I ship packages to the hostel before, or during my stay?
You can ship packages to the hostel during your stay, or in advance of your stay. If a package arrives and you do not have a reservation, or have departed, then those packages, as well as any mail sent to the hostel, are marked “Return to Sender”.
What is the hostel's cancellation policy?
Your reservation’s cancellation policy will depend on the terms & conditions of the reservation you select. For instance, a prepaid non-refundable reservation cannot be changed or cancelled without a penalty. Our 72-hour cancellation policy allows the reservation holder to cancel or modify their booking up to 3 days prior to their arrival. In summary, it is very important to read your reservation details carefully, and to be mindful of the specific terms of your booking.
Is there a place to store my things?
All dorm rooms have lockers that are free to use. Please bring your own lock.
If you check-out but need to store your bags, luggage storage is available for up to 12 hours. Bags or luggage may NOT be stored overnight.
How big are your lockers?
36 inches high
15 inches wide
18 inches deep
A normal sized backpack will fit in these lockers with no problem. If you are traveling with larger luggage we recommend putting your valuables in the locker – and placing the rest of your items underneath your bed.
Am I allowed to drink alcohol at the hostel?
YES, of course, as long as you’re 21 years old. As a matter of fact, we’re the only hostel in town that allows you to have a drink while relaxing and meeting other travelers. We wouldn’t want to stay in a hostel that doesn’t allow alcohol and we doubt you do either!
Is there an age limit?
The Chicago Getaway Hostel does not have any age restrictions, however, a parent or chaperon must accompany travelers under the age of 18. Additionally, no one under the age of 18 may stay in a dormitory.
Who can stay at a hostel?
Anyone can stay here as long as they don’t live in the Chicago area. If the zip code on your ID starts with “60” you are not allowed to stay with us.
Does the hostel supply linens?
Yes, we supply sheets, blankets, pillows and towels all for no charge.
Where are you located?
We are located in the heart of Lincoln Park, on a quiet, tree-lined street on Chicago’s North side. Our location is conveniently located near our famous train known as the “EL” and bus transportation. We are within a few blocks of some of Chicago’s best sites, including: Blues bars, Jazz clubs, the lakefront, Lincoln Park and its famous zoo. We are a short trip to the city’s major attractions like Millennium Park, Museums, Navy Pier and for ones shopping needs the Magnificent Mile.
Do you supply food?
We supply a free continental breakfast daily. We don’t have 24/7 coffee or tea anymore. We only supply coffee for breakfast when it’s free. We have a self-service kitchen for you to prepare your own food. The Chicago Getaway Hostel is conveniently located in the thriving Lincoln Park area close to grocery stores and many small cafes and restaurants for you to choose from.

Do you have parking?
We do have parking available for $34 per night. However, our spaces are limited. We suggest that you first come to the hostel, check-in, and drop off your luggage. If we have a space available, we’ll gladly rent it to you. If we don’t, we’ll give you some other options.
Are you close to public transportation?
We are one block away from the C.T.A. bus stop where you can catch the (#8 Halsted, #22Clark, #36 Broadway, #151 Sheridan) and we are three blocks away from the “EL” train (Fullerton) stop. See our directions page for more details.

If I live in chicago or the surrounding area, can I check in at chicago getaway hostel?
We do not allow guests from the Chicago area to stay at Chicago Getaway Hostel. If the zip code on your ID starts with “60”, you cannot stay with us.
